Selfies is a whimsical project where the shadow of the photographer or that of the camera being used is a part of the picture. This highlights the way photography is constructed as well as its indexicality. The latter is seen as the ontological anchor of photography. The project rejects André Bazin’s claim notes that, in photography ‘for the first time an image of the world is formed automatically, without the creative intervention of man’ and that ‘all the arts are based on the presence of man, only photography derives an advantage from his absence’.
