Reconnections refers to my leaving Wellington in the early 1970s for Australia, briefly returning around 2013 after a 40 year absence, then returning regularly to visit.
I moved away from New Zealand because I found it to be too closed, inward looking and oppressive. The long period of absence from New Zealand was marked by grieving and loss whilst I made my home in Adelaide, Australia. I then returned to reconnect with my homeland and to make photographs in Wellington between 2013 and 2018.
Reconnections is in 3 parts: darkness, space and light. The skeleton of the project–the 9 images below– has been developed in a Tumblr blog: Reconnections: Walking Wellington 2018. The narrative starts at the bottom of this page. The next step is to convert the text and images in the Tumblr blog into a pdf and then into a photo book.
